I mainly knit accessories. This is because:
1. Although I love the process of knitting I don’t have the patience for bigger projects
2. I’m nervous of spending lots of time and money on something that doesn’t fit
3. I can wear accessories in the UK for pretty much all the year
4. I can knit lightweight accessories all year round in the UK without overheating
5. I feel a bit naked without a scarf around my neck!
I made my first lace scarf in January 2010. A really good pattern for a beginner, it is from p/hop, and I really enjoyed making it. (Do have a read about p/hop if you’ve not heard about it. Its a brilliant knitting/msf charity.) since then I have made quite a few others but my Trinity is the one that I wear the most. It is made in Meriono/silk from Violet Green that my little sister bought for my Christmas 2009. I always ask for yarn for Christmas but rarely get any so this was a lovely surprise and a great colour choice.
My plans for neckwear in the near future are to explore the wonderful world of Stephen West. I think that some of my handspan might work well for his multicoloured designs. I’d also like to add something in a more lightweight yarn to my wardrobe for the summer maybe in cotton, linen or bamboo. Right, I’m off to explore my stash then!
The scarf is really pretty! 🙂 I think Stephen West is a great choice for handspun, too.
Accessories are always wonderful – and if that scarf is any indication of your collection, you are always one smartly dressed girl!
That made me laugh! Smart – not usually – but a shawl round my neck with jeans and a tshirt makes it look like I’ve made more effort that I have 🙂
I am a big fan of shawls and scarves. My favourite Stephen West has to be Daybreak, I loved it so much I have two in very different colourways. I am planning on knitting another one too!
I love accessories! I’ve done a few tops but I’m sure the number of them is still in the single digits whereas I have no idea how many various accessories I’ve done. They’re always the perfect thing to spruce up an outfit!
Mmmm, that yarn is a beautiful colour… somewhere between peacock and pine forest.
Say.. are you me? No, seriously, because your five points up there sound a lot like me! (only in a different country) I made my first big lace crochet shawl this year, it’s definitely been the solution to my handmade problem now that the temperatures are going up, I wear it constantly!
your scarf is beautiful, lovely colour
Moving to the south, I’ve found I knit a TON of accessories too, as a way to deal with the heat. 🙂
I’m wary of spending time on a sweater too, because what if it doesn’t fit? But I’m determined to give it a try soon.
Your scarf is gorgeous! Knitting accessories is great because they are so wearable. You should try a sweater though. There are some great patterns and lots of notes on ravelry for getting a perfect fit.
Beautiful scarf for one… and you made me laugh with the naked without a scarf around my neck comment. Thanks for sharing!
Such pretty lace. I understand what you mean about accessories, I love knitting them!
I am posting random blogs found through the google this week on mine, and your’s is on today’s list 🙂
came to you from the Ravelry link. I know what you mean about spending lots of money and not having a good result. I fear the same! I love your shawl.
I love to knit accessories, too! I’m on a big shawl kick right now. Your shawl is so pretty & in the perfect color.
